Illustrating Technical Material

By Victor Stanwick

This web page shows you how to identify some basic types of illustrations and how and where to use each type. Also included is information on call-outs and illustration formats.

Nothing brings a drab, boring technical document to life quite like a well-placed piece of art. However, a technical document is no place to put art for art's sake. Any piece of artwork in a technical document (with rare exceptions) must serve some purpose.
